Basic health care that many of us take for granted can be hard for others to access. We work in collaboration with key partners to address the health access and equity needs of rural
underserved youth and adults.
Health Disparities
GBDF provides financial and volunteer support to organizations focusing on health disparities and health equity.
This has included partnerships/collaborations with Duke Medical Center, East Carolina University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, North Carolina Central University, the Rural Health Group, Inc. and Vidant Health, to name a few.
Respite Care
Providing much needed funding for caregiver support groups and other activities related to respite care.
Elder Care
Elder Care and nurturing the elderly by providing recreational activities for residents of area Nursing Homes and other skilled care facilities.
Breast Cancer Support
As a founding member of the Roanoke Valley Breast Cancer Coalition (RVBCC), GBDF supports cancer related conferences and expos, support groups, tours to area cancer centers, education and outreach, and free breast screening and mammography.
These activities have been supported through funding provided from the Susan G. Komen Foundation, Morehouse School of Medicine, North Carolina Cancer Control Project, GlaxoSmithKline, the CDC Foundation and key community partners.
