GBDF Hosts Second Annual College Day
On Tuesday, April 21, 2009, the Gregory B. Davis Foundation held its second annual College Day at Northampton
County High School East in Conway, North Carolina. The purpose of this activity was to enlighten sophomores
and juniors in high school about college life, academic rigor, and social, civic and athletic opportunities
that will be available to them in college. The students were presented a packet containing information about
financial aid, admission requirements, SAT and ACT scores and more. The packet was reviewed in brief at the
session but the students were asked to review the packet in detail with their parents at a later time.
Meanwhile, the students were introduced to two professionals who were products of Northampton County Schools
and currently employed by Northampton County Schools. The professionals discussed everything from why they
decided to attend college to some of their experiences while in college. The discussion was thought
provoking and the students remained very engaged.
The Foundation would like to thank the professionals for giving back to their community in this way.
The professionals were, Mr. Corey Tyler, a graduate of Elizabeth City State University and currently media
specialist at Northampton County High School East and Ms. Shaunna Lockhart, a graduate of North Carolina State
University and currently a 5th grade teacher at Rich Square Creecy Elementary School. The Foundation would
also like to thank Ms. Colletta Edwards, Vocational Counselor, for helping to coordinate this event and Ms.
Pamela Chamblee, Principal, for use of the high school.
